Regulations of the intensive care board certificate system
Chapter 1. General rules
Article 1. The Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine establishes the board certificate system to contribute to the welfare of people by promoting the development of intensive care medicine and enhancing the quality of members.
Article 2. This system shall be called the gIntensive Care Board Certificate System of the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicineh.
Chapter 2. Operation of the intensive care board certificate system
Article 3. The Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine builds the gIntensive Care Board Certificate System Committeeh (System Committee) to operate the intensive care board certificate system properly and smoothly.
Article 4. The system committee shall consist of a small number of committee members selected from members of the society and delegated by the board chairman with board meeting approval.
Chapter 3. Screening for the certification of intensive care specialists and their training facilities
Article 5. The Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine builds the gIntensive Care Board Certificate Screening Committeeh (Screening Committee) to examine the certification of intensive care specialists and their training facilities.
Article 6. The screening committee shall consist of a small number of committee members selected from members of the society and delegated by the board chairman with board meeting approval.
Chapter 4. Conditions for the application for intensive care board certificate
Article 7. A person who wants to acquire an intensive care board certificate shall satisfy all of the following conditions:
- 1. Person with vast knowledge and experience in intensive care who has been engaged in clinical medicine for over five years from the acquisition of the medical license
- 2. Person who has been a member of the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine for five years or more at the time of application
- 3. Person who has received intensive care training for a certain period defined in the bylaws at a specified training facility for intensive care specialists or similar institute.
Chapter 5. Screening and certification of intensive care specialists
Article 8. A person who wants to acquire an intensive care board certificate shall submit an application form defined in the bylaws to the screening committee.
Article 9. The screening committee shall examine application forms for the intensive care board certificate, determine the adequacy of applicants as specialists based on the screening outcomes, and report the results to the chairman of the board every year.
Article 10. The board chairman shall certify and grant a certificate to a person who has been granted the status of an intensive care specialist by the screening committee with board meeting approval.
Chapter 6. Intensive care board certificate renewal
Article 11. The intensive care board certificate shall be effective for five years. Those who want to renew their intensive care board certificate shall follow procedures stipulated in the bylaws.
Article 12. The Screening Committee shall screen and examine application forms for intensive care board certificate renewal, and report the results to the chairman of the board every year.
Article 13. The board chairman shall certify and grant a renewed certificate to a person who has been granted the status of an intensive care specialist on examination for renewal by the screening committee with board meeting approval.
Chapter 7. Loss of the intensive care board certificate
Article 14. Intensive care specialists will lose their certificate if any of the following occur:
- 1. Abandonment of the certificate of their own free will
- 2. Loss of membership of the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine
- 3. Failure to renew the intensive care board certificate
Chapter 15. The board chairman may strip a person of the certificate who is deemed inappropriate as an intensive care specialist with screening committee and board meeting approval.
Chapter 8. Conditions for the application for board certified training facility for intensive care specialists
Article 16. The Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine shall certify an intensive care facility that is appropriate for training specialists and satisfies the following conditions as a board certified facility for intensive care specialists:
- 1. Person in charge of the facility shall be a board certified specialist certified by the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine.
- 2. The facility shall meet the facility standards for intensive care units of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (gFacility Standards of Health, Labor and Welfare Ministryh: report number 8 of the Health Insurance Bureau) or similar standards.
Chapter 9. Application for board certified training facility for intensive care specialists
Article 17. A facility wishing to be designated as a board certified facility for intensive care specialists shall submit an application form defined in the bylaws to the screening committee.
Article 18. The board chairman shall certify and grant a certificate to a facility that is deemed appropriate for training intensive care specialists by the screening committee with board meeting approval.
Chapter 10. Renewal of the certificate of board certified training facility for intensive care specialists
Article 19. The training facility board certificate shall be effective for five years. Facilities that want to renew their certificate shall follow procedures stipulated in the bylaws.
Article 20. The screening committee shall examine application forms for training facility board certificate renewal, and report the results to the chairman of the board every year.
Article 21. The board chairman shall certify and grant a renewed certificate to a facility that has been granted the status of a board certified training facility for intensive care specialists by the screening committee with board meeting approval.
Chapter 11. Loss of the certificate of board certified training facility for intensive care specialists
Article 22. Board certified training facilities for intensive care specialists will lose their certificate if any of the following occur:
- 1. Abandonment of the certificate of their own free will
- 2. Violation of the provisions in Article 16
- 3. Failure to renew the certificate of board certified training facility for intensive care specialists
Chapter 12. Supplementary provision
Article 23. For the enforcement of these rules, the bylaws shall be stipulated elsewhere.
Article 24. These rules may be modified with the approval of the system committee, board of directors, and general meeting of employees.
Additional Clause
These rules will be established on February 23, 1994 and become effective on April 1, 1995.
This revision will take effect on February 27, 2002.
This revision will take effect on March 5, 2004.
(The provisions regarding the board chairman will take effect on February 23, 2005.)
These bylaws will become effective from the date of the establishment of the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine. This revision will take effect on May 16, 2006.
