Nursing Division Constitution

Chapter 1. General Rules

Article 1. This division shall be called the “Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine, Nursing Division”.

Article 2. The principal office of the division shall be located in the office of the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine.

Chapter 2. Purpose and Projects

Article 3. The division, in accordance with the purpose in Article 3 of the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine Articles, aims to advance nursing and related fields in intensive care medicine.

Article 4. To fulfill the purpose set forth in the preceding paragraph, the division will be engaged in the following activities:

• 1) Education, surveys, and research for nurses in intensive care medicine
• 2) Operation of the nursing division at academic conferences
• 3) Cooperation with related fields
• 4) Other projects in accordance with the purpose of the society

Article 5. The division will establish local branches.

Chapter 3. Officers and Advisors

Article 6. The division will appoint the following officers:

• 1) Director of the division - 1
• 2) Deputy director of the division - 2
• 3) Standing committee members ? a small number
• 4) Committee members ? a small number
• 5) Auditors - 2

Article 7. The director and deputy directors of the division, with the approval of the council meeting, will serve as nursing directors of the society.

• 2. Nursing directors shall report on the nursing division at the board and council meetings.

Article 8. Officers of the division shall be selected as follows:

• 1) The director of the division shall be elected by and from the committee members, and approved by the general meeting of the nursing division.
• 2) At least one deputy director shall be elected by and from the committee members, and approved by the general meeting of the nursing division. The other deputy director shall be appointed by the director of the division from the committee members, and approved by the general meeting of the nursing division.
• 3) Standing committee members shall be selected from the committee members, approved by the general meeting of the nursing division, and delegated by the director of the division.
• 4) Auditors shall be selected from former deputy directors, vice deputy directors, or standing committee members, approved by the general meeting of the nursing division, and delegated by the director of the division.
• 5) Committee members shall be selected from the members of the nursing division, approved by the general meeting, and delegated by the director of the division.

Article 9. The division may appoint a small number of advisors.

Article 10. The officers of the division shall be responsible for the following duties:

• 1) The director of the division shall represent the division and control duties, and the vice director of the division shall assist him/her.
• 2) Standing committee members shall discuss important issues and attend council meetings of the society
• 3) Committee members shall be engaged in academic conferences and subcommittee activities.
• 4) Auditors shall audit the activities of the division.

Article 11. The terms of office for the officers shall be as follows:

• 1) The director and vice director of the division shall serve for three years, and may be re-elected only once.
• 2) Standing committees and committee members shall serve for three years, and may be re-elected.
• 3) The term of office of auditors shall be three years.
• 4) The term of office of an officer appointed to fill a vacancy shall be the remaining term of office of his/her predecessor.
• 5) One-year term of office means the period from the day after the academic conference in the year of appointment to the final day of the academic conference the following year.
• 6) If the director of the division is not able to fulfill his/her term, one of the vice directors will be appointed at the standing and regular committees and serve the remaining term.
• 7) If one of the vice directors is not able to fulfill his/her term, a substitute shall be appointed in a similar manner to the election of vice directors, and delegated.

Chapter 4. Meeting

Article 12. The division shall hold meetings as follows:

• 1) General meeting of the nursing division
• 2) Standing committee meeting
• 3) Committee meeting
• 4) Subcommittee meeting

Article 13. The general meeting of the nursing division shall consist of the members of the nursing division, and be convened by the director of the division once a year.

Article 14. The committee shall consist of the officers, and be convened by the director of the division twice a year.

• 2. Committee meetings shall require the attendance of the majority of members.

Article 15. Standing committees shall consist of standing committee members. The director of the division shall convene standing committee meetings as needed and serve as the chairman of meetings.

• 2. Upon a request from the majority of the standing committee members, a provisional standing committee meeting shall be convened.
• 3. Standing committee meetings shall require the attendance of the majority of members.
• 4. Advisors may attend standing committee meetings and express their opinions, but are not entitled to vote.

Article 16. The division may establish standing or ad hoc subcommittees as necessary.

• 2. Members of subcommittees shall be delegated by the director of the division from the officers.
• 3. The chairmen of subcommittees shall be delegated by the director of the division with the approval of the standing committee.
• 4. Continuation of subcommittees shall be determined by the standing committee meeting.

Article 17. Resolutions shall be passed by a majority voting at the meeting. In the event of a tie, the chairman shall decide.

Chapter 5. Alteration of the Rules

Article 18. The rules of the division may be altered with the approval of the committee.

Chapter 6. Supplementary Provision

Article 19. The local branches shall be subject to the bylaws of the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine.

Article 20. Nursing directors shall report on the nursing division at the board and council meetings.

Article 21. Standing committee members may attend council meetings.

Additional Clause:
These rules shall take effect on the date of the establishment of the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine.
